Il existe deux types d'opérations d'initié. Dans le premier cas, il s'agit de toute transaction boursiere effectuée par une personne considérée comme un initié vis-a-vis de l'émetteur. Ce type d'opération doit etre signalé a la commission des valeurs mobilieres compétente. Dans le deuxieme cas, des initiés mettent a profit des renseignements importants qu'ils sont seuls a connaitre. Ce type d'opération constitue une fraude (délit d'initié).
