Konteksts: [..] The Court considers that in spite of the ambiguity of the applicable provisions of the Criminal Code of 1973 and the fact that the first clarification was not made by the Supreme Court until 1994, the practice adopted by the prison authorities and the Spanish courts was to consider the 30-year maximum term of imprisonment to be served ("condena") under Article 70 § 2 of the Criminal Code of 1973 as a new, independent sentence, to which certain prison benefits, such as reductions of sentence for work done, should be applied.
